About the Dragonborn Name Generator
The Dragonborn palette combines longer forms with prominent consonants and imagery of fire, storms and lineage. Use it to test how a formal introduction works when a character speaks for both themselves and a household.
The tool combines fragments with assigned glosses about fire, storm, honor, sovereignty and lineage. They are creative annotations, not translations from an official Draconic language; generated forms can overlap with existing names.
Use these for paladins, fighters, sorcerers, and any character who carries the weight of a bloodline they did not choose.
Choose what the clan name commits someone to
For this exercise, put the household name first and the personal name second. Decide whether the household name is inherited, chosen or granted by a sponsor. Write down who can change it and what that change costs.
If the household is associated with a failed expedition, a formal introduction may invite questions the character does not want. Write one introduction in the expected order and one with the personal name first. Decide whether anyone present treats the difference as meaningful.
Names built to be said aloud
Read a full household-plus-personal name aloud at the pace of play. If you stumble, try a shorter result or an introduced short form. Test the name in a question and a warning as well as a formal introduction.
The generator's approximate pronunciation hint can start the read-aloud test. Adapt it for your table and record any short form you use. A character who welcomes a nickname and one who prefers the full form give you different conversational choices.
The ancestor problem
If you choose an inherited household name, decide what it records and who can explain that history. An ancestor's deed could be well documented, disputed or remembered only in an unreliable family account.
Pick a generated name for the household and use its gloss to suggest an event. Write one family account and one conflicting piece of evidence. Decide who would care about resolving the difference, and place that person where the party can meet them.
Inside the Dragonborn Name Set
Compare these invented constructions for your cast. Pick two similar names for related characters, then a contrasting one for a newcomer. The glosses belong to this tool, not an official fantasy language. Results can resemble names from existing fiction; they are not checked for rights or exclusivity.

Dragonborn Name Generator: Common Questions
How does the Dragonborn name generator work?
It combines an opener and an ending from the project's Dragonborn palette. The accompanying glosses suggest material for a character or story; they are not translations from an official fictional language. For example, Zorthia has the project gloss "gold sky". This is a creative annotation, not a verified translation.
Are these official Dungeons & Dragons Dragonborn names?
No. This is an independent creative tool, not a publisher's official name list. It does not check whether an output also appears in a rulebook, setting or other work. Follow your chosen setting's conventions if they matter to your game, and review a name before using it in a published product.
How many Dragonborn names can this generator make?
The current base pool contains 15 opening elements and 30 endings, producing 450 distinct spellings. Optional surnames and titles are outside this count. Repeated generation can return a name you have seen before.
What makes a useful Dragonborn name?
Choose a name you can say and distinguish from the rest of your cast. Use its gloss to suggest a family expectation, occupation or incident, then decide whether that interpretation suits the character. The naming exercise on this page offers options rather than rules for every setting.
Can I use these Dragonborn names in my own work?
The site permits generated results to be used in personal and commercial creative work without attribution. Results may coincide with existing names, brands or fictional characters. The tool does not check third-party rights or guarantee exclusivity, linguistic accuracy or suitability for your use. Check a final name before publication; the Terms explain these limits.
