Use these guides when you have names to choose, a fictional region to develop, or a cast that is becoming hard to follow. Each guide works through a different task and includes an example you can adapt to your own story.
These are creative-writing suggestions, not rules about real cultures or guarantees about how every reader will respond. Invented exercises are labelled separately from generator output. The guides have been revised with AI assistance; the editorial approach explains their scope and how to report an error.

Choose the guide for your task
For one character: the character guide starts with a short brief, revises a ferry keeper’s name, and tests the result in dialogue. Use its final checklist during play and save the name alongside the character’s role and location.
For a whole setting: the naming-language guide builds an invented river district from six elements. It shows the element meanings, combination rule, settlement names, and a way to distinguish a person’s name from their address. You can keep the structure and replace the vocabulary.
For an existing draft: the naming-mistakes guide checks pronunciation, similar names, tone, bynames, and aliases. Its three-suspect example shows a small revision that makes one scene easier to follow without renaming the whole world.
Where to go next
Once you have a method, the name meanings reference lists the character elements and their creative glosses. Each guide also links to relevant tools for practicing its method. The about page explains how the generator combines elements and why a fictional meaning is not a verified translation.
