About the Drow Name Generator
Drow are dark elves in many tabletop settings, raised in cities far below the surface where a careless word can end a career. This set leans on sibilant, clipped sounds: openers such as Ilz-, Vhal- and Zyr- joined to endings like -yss, -dril and -thos.
It also leaves out apostrophes on purpose. They look exotic on a character sheet, but players skip them when reading aloud, which is why the Cast Name Checker flags them. The glosses are this tool's own: Vhal is night and -dril is hunter, so Vhaldril reads "Night hunter".
House first, person second
In stories about drow cities, a name often matters less than the house behind it. Name the matron and her rival before anyone else: Velvra (venom + matron) leads a house that rules by poison, Rylith (silk + weaver) one that rules by favours owed.
Turn on Full name to add a family name, then let the players learn the house first and the person's own name only once they have earned some trust.
Names that are said quietly
Not every drow is a schemer at court. Scouts, exiles and spies need names that sound as if they were meant to be whispered: Shiryn (whisper + web), Nymis (hidden + silence) and Myrel (glow + eye).
Give an exile a name with a sting in its gloss, such as Zyrthos (shadow + exile). It hints that the name came after the fall, and you can decide what the old one was.
Sibilants blur together
This set's strength is also its risk. Ilzyss (spider + mistress) and Ilziss (spider + serpent) differ by one letter, and a table will merge them by the second session.
Keep near-twins for characters who are meant to be confused, such as a priestess and the impostor who copies her. Everyone else gets a different opener: Drazar (ruin + blade) and Vhaldril never collide.

Compare these invented constructions for your cast. Pick two similar names for related characters, then a contrasting one for a newcomer. Every Element in the Drow Set
These are all the fragments this page combines. Choose a meaning you want first, then look for the opener and ending that carry it. The generator joins them with two spelling rules: a consonant repeated across the join is written once, and pairs that would put the same vowel twice at the join are left out.
